Emerald ash borer is a metallic green color. It is approximately a half inch long with a flat back. There are purple markings beneath the wing covers.
The larva will be creamy white with bell shaped body segments.
Canopy of the ash tree will die-back starting with the top 1/3. Die back will progress downward, through the whole tree until leaves are bare.
Sprouts or shoots will grow from the trunk and roots.
Vertical bark splitting will reveal galleries, which are grooves in the inner bark. This is a record of the boring activity of EAB.
Increased woodpecker activity.
