- Emerald ash borer is a metallic green color. It is approximately a half inch long with a flat back. There are purple markings beneath the wing covers.
- The larva will be creamy white with bell shaped body segments.
- Canopy of the ash tree will die-back starting with the top 1/3. Die back will progress downward, through the whole tree until leaves are bare.
- Sprouts or shoots will grow from the trunk and roots.
- Vertical bark splitting will reveal galleries, which are grooves in the inner bark. This is a record of the boring activity of EAB.
- Increased woodpecker activity.
