Updates on Colorado watering restrictions for Summer 2019. Denver Water will have restrictions on outdoor watering starting May 1st and continuing through Oct. 1, 2019.

About 4 inches of rain has fallen in the Metro area so far in 2019 – which is above normal. But using water wisely still needs to be a part of our daily reality here in the West – we still have to be conscious of conservation.

2019 Rules for Outdoor Water Use

  • Water during cooler times of the day — lawn watering is not allowed between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Water no more than three days per week.
  • Do not allow water to pool in gutters, streets and alleys.
  • Do not waste water by letting it spray on concrete and asphalt.
  • Repair leaking sprinkler systems within 10 days.
  • Do not irrigate while it is raining or during high winds.
  • Use a hose nozzle with a shut-off valve when washing your car.

These rules are mandatory. Repeat offenders may be fined.

As a reminder, Denver Water’s policies apply to a whole host of cities beyond the city limits of Denver.

Suburbs directly served by Denver Water include,

  • Bow Mar
  • Centennial
  • Cherry Hills Village
  • Edgewater
  • Glendale
  • Greenwood Village
  • Lakewood
  • Littleton
  • Lone Tree
  • Wheat Ridge

Denver Water wholesales a fixed amount of water to the following municipalities but service is provided by another water utility.

  • Arvada
  • Highlands Ranch
  • Westminster

Cities Not Served by Denver Water

Parker and Castle Rock’s water supplies are independent of Denver Water.  Parker has voluntary watering restrictions and Castle Rock has permanent watering restrictions and has since 1985. Voluntary watering restrictions are usually set at either two days of watering a week or a restriction on daytime watering.

One tip for watering. While Denver Water pushes for night time watering, as your lawn service expert we’d like to add that early-evening watering can cause fungii to form in your lawn so we recommend timing your sprinkler system pre-dawn as opposed to right after sunset.
