People love their lawns and trees and your pride of ownership is what keeps us in business. Because your plant health care (PHC) estimate can be somewhat mind boggling, we put together a short description of a few of the common treatments we often prescribe for Denver tree services.

Pre-Emergent

Contrary to popular belief, pre-emergent weed killers don’t destroy broad- leaf weeds and their seeds; they simply stop them from growing. These herbicides are generally only effective if applied before annual grass weeds emerge. This time-sensitive treatment needs to be done early spring and watered in after completion. To prepare for this treatment we ask that you have all pets inside and gates open to allow access.

Deep Root Fertilization

Deep root fertilization is one of our most requested plant health care services. The materials are injected into the root zone under pressure which helps aerate, or provide much needed oxygen to the root system. Ongoing deep root fertilization programs improve environmental conditions around and within the root zone. For this service, we ask that you keep all pets inside and any gates open.

Merit Injection

Merit injection controls some of the most destructive tree pests around in a single treatment and is the most trusted insecticide out there. It is injected into the trunk or root flare of the tree and causes pests to stop feeding, stop reproducing, and eventually die.

Dormant Oil

This treatment effectively kills pests, which would otherwise survive winter cold, on trunks and stems of dormant fruits, nuts, and ornamental trees and plants. Dormant oil sprays don’t harm beneficial insects, birds, humans and other mammals. This treatment is done just before buds of new growth begin to swell. Please have all pets inside, gates open, and windows closed while this treatment is being done.

Necrotic Ring Spot

Necrotic Ring Spot is a soil-borne fungus whose symptoms often develop in late summer and is the most destructive disease of Kentucky bluegrass in Colorado. Necrotic ring spot can be a very difficult disease to manage and treatments must be done annually. For this we ask you stay away from the treated area until it is dry, keep all pets inside, and gates open.

Mountain Pine Beetles

Mountain pine beetles (MPB) are an insect native to the forests of western North America and are also known as the Black Hills beetle or the Rocky Mountain pine beetle. MPB primarily develop in pines and these outbreaks can be devastating and have resulted in the loss of millions of trees. For your pine beetle treatment,  we would like you to have pets inside, gates open, and windows closed.

Ash Borer

Ash borer are insects that lay eggs which turn to larvae that feed on the xylem of the tree. They start in the top one-third of the canopy and progress down until the tree is bare. Our ash borer treatment is an insecticide that is applied as a foliar spray on the leaves and branches of a tree and its application should be done in May or early June.  In order to prep for this to be done we ask you have all pets inside, gates open, and windows closed.

Fire Blight

Fire Blight is caused by bacteria and no one is safe from its path. This plant disease gets its name from its burnt appearance which first attacks blossoms, gradually moves to the twigs, and then onto the branches. Pruning and removing infected branches along with our Fire Blight treatments can help you control this nuisance. In order to prepare for these treatments (two) we ask you keep all pets inside, gates open, and windows closed.
